Patriots’ Day commemorates the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775.
Norwood’s town seal depicts Major Aaron Guild, then a captain, leaving his farm to confront the British regulars.
A memorial stone outside Morrill Memorial Library reads:
“NEAR THIS SPOT CAPT. AARON GUILD ON APRIL 19, 1775 LEFT PLOW IN FURROW, OXEN STANDING AND DEPARTING FOR LEXINGTON ARRIVED IN TIME TO FIRE UPON THE RETREATING BRITISH.”
